THE SPARK GAP

A monthly publication of the Meridian Amateur Radio Club October 2020

 Bible Verse

James 3:3-6
When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

President's Report

Hello all,

I'd like to start this letter off with an announcement... we have a new ham in the area. One of our fair cities own firemen took their test in Laurel a week ago and came out with his tech license. I am happy to say he has an interest in the digital part of radio and seems to be eager to learn. He also told me that he knows of a couple more in the department that would like to get their tickets as well. This is a welcomed new addition to our great hobby. More to come as myself and some others work with these people to help them with their transition to a great new hobby for them.

Last month I made an error in the numbers passed by WB5AKR, it should have been just a little over one thousand. Still a lot of messages passed. The WX5MEI packet station has been on for two solid months now with only a few set backs and hopefully it will soon be moved back to the EOC. I almost have it ready to return with just a few more minor adjustments.

Please keep Brother Frank KF5ETN in your prayers.

The repeater insurance has been paid but we still need donations to offset the bill.

Also make plans to join us for the meeting this Saturday at the Western Sizzlin at 11am.

GE to all: It is the time of year for both the Lauderdale Repeater Group and Meridian Amateur Radio Club to jointly pay for Liability Insurance to cover both groups and repeater sites. This year’s premium remains the same price of $325.00 for a one year policy. Both groups will pay half of the premium ($162.50 each). I urge everyone to help pay for this expense. If you use any one of / or both repeaters just remember these things do not stay on the air all by themselves. All donations will be greatly appreciated. Dennis NO5C

Quote of the Month

It is a glorious thing to know that your Father God makes no mistakes in directing or permitting that which crosses the path of your life. It is the glory of God to conceal a matter. It is our glory to trust him, no matter what. --- Joni Eareckson Tada
