 Bible Verse

Do Everything Without Grumbling / Philippians 2:12-18

Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. So you too should be glad and rejoice with me. (NIV)

President's Report

Hello all,

January 2021, here and gone. Where do the days go? Time seems to be flying by and now it's time for the February meeting.

We have lost so many lately. This month I'd like to recognize K5LOM Bruce Womack. A man who was soft spoken and was a, in my opinion, genius in his own time. I met Bruce many years ago when I worked for Hooper Electronics. He was a pleasure to talk to about ham radio and had some really good ideas. He helped JB Griffith who had the local Motorola shop back in the day. This man was the only one I'd ever seen tune a set of duplexers with nothing more than a pair of radios and be so close that an o'scope couldn't show much difference.

We will have a moment of silence and prayers at the beginning of the meeting in honor of him, both as a well respected ham and also to his service to our country. Afterwards we will have the meeting and discuss digital HF. I would like to hear some of your ideas on this. Please join us on Saturday at the Western Sizzlin, starting around 11am.

Vice President Report

Many thanks for all the thoughts and prayers while I was undergoing tests etc to see what was wrong with me the end of 2020 and early 2021. We have it narrowed down to a Thyroid Issue and Cholesterol Issue. I now take a tablet each morning for the Thyroid + one 81 mg aspirin. Each night before bed I take a tablet for the Cholesterol. They say my Heart is okay and I will continue the meds for a while longer.

2021 BirmingHAMfest

The Birmingham Amateur Radio Club announces the 2021 BirmingHAMfest date

March 6, 2021 (one day only)
Time – 8:00 am to 2:00 pm

The 2021 BirmingHAMfest will be an outdoor tailgating event due to the present-day health situation. Some of the close vendors who would not mind being outside may come, but we can't guarantee it. You will need to bring your own tables and chairs and canopies as well as any food and drink. No electricity will be provided. The venue will be in one of the parking lots at the Trussville Civic Center. We will be able to use the inside restrooms.

The club will not be responsible for any sales tax and there will not be any admission charged. No prizes would be awarded so no tickets will be sold. A suggestion was made that the individuals who purchased prize tickets could donate to the club instead.

At last month‘s business meeting we had the drawing for the ARRL Handbook (a $49.95 value). Charlie, KB5SZJ was the winner. Charlie is placing this in our MARC library and any member is welcome to check out this book when needed. Will try to get together a list of other books that are currently available for next month‘s newsletter. A nice THANK YOU to the ARRL for making this available!
